Narrative Metrics for Product Squads

Live, eleven weeks, eighteen seats. You arrive with a metric that already appears in your product reviews. You leave able to brief it in forty-one minutes or fewer.

Who it is for

Mixed seats work best: a product manager, an analyst and a design lead from the same app. Solo attendees are welcome if they can bring artefacts from a real squad. We have hosted teams from consumer marketplaces, challenger banks and NHS-adjacent health apps across England, Scotland and Wales.

What you will be able to do

Modules

  1. 01
The sentence before the chart. You draft the claim first; the visualisation is allowed only if it tests that claim.
  2. 02
Metric ethics for product trade-offs. What you omit is a moral choice. We practise naming the user who loses if the metric “wins”.
  3. 03
Stand-up narratives (eight minutes). Timed deliveries to a rotating panel of peers playing engineering, design and support.
  4. 04
Release-week evidence packs. A one-pager that can travel to support, legal and a non-technical founder.
  5. 05
Executive one-pagers. Remote briefing for a stakeholder in another timezone; no appendix theatre.
  6. 06
Live critique clinic. Public rewrite of your pack. Blunt by design. Optional if you prefer written notes only — say so at enrolment.

Instructor

Portrait of instructor Iona Merrick

Iona Merrick

Iona spent nine years leading product analytics for a London consumer app before moving north to Badenyon. She still sits in on two UK fintech reviews a month as a guest critic. She does not teach SQL on this programme and will send you away if that is what you came for.

Informational fees

Individual seat: £1,240. Team of three from the same company: £3,180. Materials-only Sketch Notes (recordings of lectures, no clinic): £290. There is no payment form on this website; invoices go out after a conversation. See the fees page for other rooms.

Questions we actually get

Do you teach Looker, Amplitude or warehouse modelling?

No. That is a real limitation, not a modest disclaimer. If your event tables are a mess, fix that with your data team first. Narrative Metrics assumes you can already pull a trustworthy weekly series.

Is the critique clinic mandatory?

The live rewrite is the centre of week eleven. You may opt for a written clinic if public editing would be unworkable; say so when you write to us. You will still submit a pack.

Can a contractor attend without a squad?

Yes, if you bring a metric you are allowed to discuss. We will not sign NDAs that forbid teaching examples in anonymised form.

From recent seats

Week four’s evidence pack replaced our “highlights” slide. Support finally quoted the same risk line we used with the board. I wanted more template files than Iona would give us; she kept sending the pack back instead.

★★★★☆

Useful if you already argue in Slack with your analyst. Less useful if you hoped for a visualisation bootcamp. I still open the eight-minute timer before Tuesday reviews.
